If you know you’re going to be a teacher, a degree in Education will probably more directly-prepare you for that career.

Now why would you want to avoid minors? I think you’d do better to get yourself as broad an education as possible. At my university, the degree was in English education, which is an education degree with a lot of English requirements. If you are at the start of your college education, also know that having a second degree in your subject area is helpful. I teach high school English, and I have a BA in English Education, a MA in teaching, and another BS in biology. None of it was a “minor.”
And when a kid comes into my room with a math, science, or social studies book and a perplexed look, I am competent to help figure out the problem. Kids do not respect teachers who don’t know anything about the universe outside their own disciplines. That’s why colleges have general studies requirements that seem to have nothing to do with your major. Everything is connected, and a skilled teacher can help young people make the connections. Life doesn’t come in “subjects.”
