So…bad reviews, is harvard a bad college?

You might think I’m crazy for asking this. Some of you think of harvrd as an Ivy League school with a huge campus, success, and more.

But I want to go into Harvard Business. Before I go all college crazy about Harvard, I’m looking at the reviews for top business schools and Harvard has totall FAILED my expectations. I would love to see it in the top 5 in every list but it has gone to as low as the 14th place!

Yes a few times it scored 1st, but wow were those results shocking.

So my question is…is Harvard business a good school? Just because its a branch of Harvard does not make it the best.

Anyone know?Anyone graduate from the school?Anyone hear anything bad about it? Anyone suggest a school that is absolutely the BEST?

James P has a great answer. You need to be wary about the methodology of different ranking systems. Many use criteria that you could care less about.

There’s no absolute “best” business school. How has Harvard “totally FAILED” your expectations? Just because some random ranking several years back had it at 14? Maybe that ranking was trying to find a methodology to deliberately knock Harvard out of the top few spots (such as “away from Boston, but still on the east coast”)?

After all, ultimately, who’s going to care about the rep of a b-school? Employers and the public. All are going to recognize Harvard as one of the best b-schools in the world. Wharton (UPenn) is going to be as respected, if not moreso, by business people, but the general public is going to assume Harvard is better. Who do you care about pleasing?

In the end, can you even get into Harvard? Schools like Harvard or Wharton are no sure thing for anyone. Also, once you’re in, you’ve still got to perform.

Relying solely on rankings is so stupid, I’m not sure a person who does that would have what it takes to get into the top schools. Especially when they throw out the name of a school like Princeton, which doesn’t even have a business school.

Harvard is a great school with a wonderful history and some of the worlds brightest minds. I’m not sure how schools get ranked anymore and I have no idea what expectations you had of Harvard Business and how the school failed you. My wife went to an Ivy League school and hated it. She thought the students were all out for themselves and the teachers were more concerned about their publications instead of their classes. But that is one person’s opinion. You go to schools like Harvard or Yale just to say you went to a school like Harvard or Yale, not really for the education you get. Because a finance class at Yale is basically the same as it is in a community college, you just pay 250 times more!

Harvard’s School of Business has been held in high regard for decades. You need to be wary of “ranking” systems as they include such non-educational items as number of parking spaces, library size, and food service.

You can obtain a MBA from most state universities, but if you desire a prestigious school, then Harvard certainly fits that bill. But it may surprise you that a MBA from Wharton is held in higher esteem and Wharton is located at the U of Penn
