How do you teach English to kids that don’t even know the language?

1) Start with phrases:

Hello. My name is….

This is a ….It is….(size) and (color).

2) Add nouns, adjectives, verbs in play situations and songs, with lots of repetitions.

3) Have question/answer exercises.

What is on the table? It is a book. Is it big? No, it is small. Is it red? No, it is black and yellow. Can I have it? No, it is mine.

4) Relate to real social situations like dinner, taking the bus, school, stores, etc.

I would start the way I taught all my kids to read and speak English. 1) Teach them the ABCD song. They don’t have to know what it is at first. It is just a cute song. Then show them the letters as you sing the song. This will get them to associate the letters with the song. Then start showing them that A says Ah, B says Bu and so on. Go through all the phonetics of the letters. When they get that you can show them how to sound out words while showing them what the words are with pictures or real objects. This will teach reading and word association.

How does one teach math to kids who don’t know math or science to kids who don’t know science?

You start out by connecting their experiences and knowledge with what you are teaching. Then, you build, basing new knowledge with their growing abilities and the foundations learned each previous day.

By the way, if the kids already knew the language, we wouldn’t have to teach them.

don’t worry, kids learn quick if you put them in an environment that speaks the language. Make them play with kids that speak english, and you’ll definitely see a difference once you speak with them. When I was 7, I went on vacation to the Philippines for a month, I was speaking the language fluently after the whole trip. Trust me, it works. Take care. :]

Start out with something simple. Amazon has lots of books for young children that are bilingual. You could buy a picture book which shows the object in their traditional language as well as English.

Firstly, need to understand what language do this child know.

Try to input his language – English – pictorial or sign language or objects.
