How can you maintain a positive learning environment for children in academics as a teacher’s aide?

These are a couple of things I think anyone can do to help promote a positive learning environment:

Students are our number one priority

Have a positive attitude

Positive team attitude

Strong work ethic

Strong organizational skills

Good content knowledge (best you can as an aide)

Have good communication Skills

Be self-Motivated

Be flexible

Are you asking this because you are with a teacher or team where you aren’t able to do this? If your team supports you, and also wants the same thing that you appear to want, then talk openly with them about how you could accomplish this goal?

Are you assigned to one kid in a large collaborative classroom? Or are you in a small classroom with a few kids you assist? I could see how creating a positive learning environment may be difficult as you are with just a few struggling or behaviorally challenged kids. If that is the case, do the best you can to love them, challenge them and help them socially/academically. Feel confident in yourself and know that you are there for a reason. The teacher cannot do it without you – so be proud of what you do with them and that positive attitude you have will help make the classroom a brighter more positive place.
