You need to define what you mean by ‘public’. In some countries this means a non fee paying state school (i.e. free to nationals) and in other countries it means a private fee paying school.

In New Zealand all schools charge fees to non-nationals but the fees for state schools tend to be lower than for private schools. Additionally, each school sets its own fees and the level will depend on the popularity of the school and where it is located.

If you know where in New Zealand you want to study then you can do an internet search for school websites in that area. Most will indicate on the site whether they accept foreign fee paying students and how much their fees are.

As a general indication I have given links to two schools below. A primary school (Nelson Central) and a secondary school (Nelson College). Both are state schools which accept foreign students. Nelson College and many other colleges accept boarders, but Nelson Central school and other primary schools generally do not.

The first link for each school is the general information page and the second link leads you to the fee table.
