Help! Microbiology and Physiology together for Dental hygiene program?

These are my last prerequisites before I get to apply to the program. Honestly, I am a very discouraged and disappointed in myself because I have a B in my anatomy class right now. The dental hygiene program is known to be very selective, and I feel like a B in anatomy more likely will result me with a B in micro and physiology. I might take them together this coming semester so I can apply for fall 2008. I would be only taking these two classes, will be cutting off all my social life, and will not be working either. Would it be better off to take them separately and apply for fall 2009 instead? All other prerequisites I have A’s so far. I am taking the anatomy class over the summer, and it is quite stressful. My professor said physiology is harder than anatomy over the summer. I work pretty hard but I’m not that smart, so it takes me a while for things to sink in. Sorry for such long story. Thoughtful advice will be highly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time.

You should be fine as long as you have solid A’s in all of your other prerequisites… However, I admit that I know nothing about dental hygiene programs. I took Anatomy last spring and earned a solid ‘A’. I am now taking Physiology this summer and it is definately harder! I am struggling to keep my ‘B’, so you will have to really get serious if you take Microbiology with it, but it sounds like you are prepared. Good luck with everything!

Hygienist often are paid pretty well, but not usually as much as an RN, but pretty close. Big benefit to DH is that you will not work shifts and often have the weekends off. Some DH’s working in orthodonist’s offices do very well financially, less so if you are in an office with one Dentist. If you are looking for a long term career go RN, if you are looking for a good career and one that you can step in and out of for family reasons DH is hard to beat.

I work at a college & it is reccommended that you not take more than two natural sciences at the same time. So you should be fine. You’d be surprised at how te two classes will relate to one another. Also, from my experience the night instructors are generaly “easier” than the day instructors, Maybe check out www.ratemtprofessor.com. Hope this helps!
