Education and College?

Hi I have an unweighted GPA of 96 and a weighted gpa of almost 104. I am ranked # 3 in a class of 250. I am currently a member of Habitat for HUmanity and have received numerous awards from differnt organizations such as Khahil Gibran etc… I also am a volunteer at a nursing home. Based on this information do you think an 1800 out of a 2400 on the SAT will get me into an ivy league school like cornell university or would i have to score a bit higher on my SAT. I would also like to know if a 30 on the act will get me in as well. Thank you

Good job with your extracurriculars and your academics. However, you will most likely need to improve your SAT scores.

You will not get in with an 1800 out of 2400. That is a score lower than about 80%+ of Cornell’s students and would only put you in the top quarter of all SAT takers, definately not worthy of #3 in a class.. Their middle 50% had an SAT range of 1280 to 1490 while you’d have a 1200 on a 1600 scale. Unless you’re a recruited athlete or underrepresented minority, I don’t think you have much of a shot.

However, a 30 is much more respectable. That is above average for Cornell. If you can get a 30, don’t bother reporting the 1800. I’d say you’d have a good shot with a 30.

Unless you got some legacy at an ivy league, most likely not. An 1800 SAT averages out to a 600 on each exam which is not that great. At the very least you will need a 2100 on the SAT I with some high SAT IIs exams score to back it up. Many of your classmates will have perfect or close to perfect scores on the SAT.

Good Luck.
