Buddhists? Could you take a quick survey??

I need to find a Buddhist to answer these questions for a paper for a religion class.

What are the important holidays and traditions of this religion?

How has religion shaped your life?

What are the challenges, if any, to practicing this particular religion?

What influenced you to practice Buddhism?

What is the general feeling about women teaching Buddhism in the area you live in?

Have you ever traveled back to your homeland? Influences?

In which ways do you practice this religion every day?

How do your beliefs differ from other Buddhist beliefs, if at all?

Which Buddhist sect do you call yourself a member of?

Since your body is considered impermanent, do u still view exercise as an important thing in daily life. Why or why not?

Do Buddhists believe in a particular form of creation or evolution?

How would one become a Buddhist if they were not one before?

In general, how would u describe a typical Buddhist?

sorry for all that

> What are the important holidays and traditions of this religion?

As far as I know (I don’t live in a Buddhist country), there are no special holidays such as Christmas, Passover, etc… Traditions? hmm… I can’t think of anything.

> How has religion shaped your life?

I became a Buddhist about 4 years ago and the way I see life and people has changed a lot since then. Practical things haven’t changed at all though, it’s inside of you, you know? You start respecting people, animals and plants more. You become more patient and less guilty of anything.

> What are the challenges, if any, to practicing this particular religion?

The biggest challenge is to practice meditation. It’s difficult and demands time. It’s quite hard for average people in the West to practice meditation as much as a practioner should do.

> What influenced you to practice Buddhism?

It all started by practicing Yoga, then I became interested in the Eastern culture and so on.

> What is the general feeling about women teaching Buddhism in the area you live in?

Most of the practioners I know are women. I don’t think there is any difference in women or men teaching it.

> Have you ever traveled back to your homeland? Influences?

I don’t understand this question. “my homeland”?

> In which ways do you practice this religion every day?

Especially by watching out for my action, trying to do only good things for the others, praying for the Buddhas, offering what I eat/drink for them too, and so on.

> How do your beliefs differ from other Buddhist beliefs, if at all?

Most Buddhist beliefs are the same even in different lineages.

> Which Buddhist sect do you call yourself a member of?

I am a practioner of Kadampa Buddhism. Take a look at our website: www.kadampa.org

> Since your body is considered impermanent, do u still view exercise as an important thing in daily life. Why or why not?

Yes, everything is impermanent in Sansara, still you should always do your best. You can do exercises to have a stronger body to help the others, you don’t need to do exercises only to be beautiful and attractive. The usage you give to your body can also be unselfish…

> Do Buddhists believe in a particular form of creation or evolution?

This is a long story… Let’s leave it to science. But I can tell you for sure: there is not a creator such as God.

> How would one become a Buddhist if they were not one before?

You can always become a Buddhist once you accept the filosophy and its practices. I used to be an atheist…

> In general, how would u describe a typical Buddhist?

You mean in the East or West? Well, in the West, a typical Buddhist is someone who respects people, plants and all animals (including bugs); who doesn’t do any harm to them; who listens more than talks; who prays for the Buddhas; who watches out for his actions, and so on…

I hope I’ve helped you a bit 🙂 Good luck on your paper !
