test different types of soap.

materials:

4 different types of brand name dish washing soap

4 medium-size glass bowls

oil ( vegetable works best )

measuring spoons&cups

a clean work area

procedure:

1. pour 1 cup of water into each bowl. and in each bowl add 1/2 cup of soap. ( different soap for each bowl )

2. mix the soap and water so it is a non-mechanical mixture (evenly mixed)

3.into each bowl add 1 tbs of oil. mix well for 25 seconds.

4.check and see if all oil has desolved in each bowl. record what you see.

5. reapeat step 3, until the soap fails to disolve all of the oil. if soap did not sucede in disolving the first tbs of oil, do not add more.

6. record your findings.

tips:

1. make sure that every time you add a new tbs of oil you stur it for 25 seconds.

2. when recording your findings, make sure to include how many tbs of oil it took until it stopped disolving.

3. take pictures, it adds effect to the display.

goooddd luck!

p.s. if this is the project you choose please give me best answer!

If you check out the science section at your library, you’ll find lots of great books on science fair projects. The ones they have there would probably be keyed to Australian products, though I can’t imagine they’d be too different from American or British products. At our library, there are something like 20-30 books on this subject alone. That way, you can browse through and find something that’s interesting to you and in the difficulty level that you’re looking for.

If you’re at a remote school (not sure what part of Australia you live in?), try some of these sites:

http://www.terimore.com/

http://www.energyquest.ca.gov/projects/

http://school.discovery.com/sciencefaircentral/

http://www.jimloy.com/science/sfair.htm

I haven’t looked around these sites in detail, but they are what came up when I googled “science fair projects”. They should get you on the right track, though if you have internet site restrictions you may want to let your parents peek around them first.

Hope that helps!
