You mean homeschool for “stay at home”, right? Not simply, “Ah, I don’t feel like going to school today. I’ll stay home.”

Me, personally, I would not have liked homeschooling if it meant being homeschooled under my mom, although as a high schooler with her at work and me doing independent or online studies would have worked. It would have been horrendous just because she’s a person with a lot of issues that have damaged our relationship enough.

However, after teaching in the school system, my husband and I (who are much more balanced than my mother) decided to homeschool our children. They are happy at home (and in the community since we are very active) and don’t want to go to school for the time being.

I was home-schooled all the way from Kindergarten through High School. I would definitely go through home schooling again if given the choice (not that I necessarily want to go back and have to go through my childhood again). If I have children some day, I expect to teach them at home.

Why? Academically, one-on-one teaching is more effective than a teacher addressing a class of 30 or so. After graduating from high school, I took the ACT and scored a 32 (out of 36, pretty high), and went on to attend college at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where I received a B.Arch. (Bachelor of Architecture), and I had the highest GPA in my graduating class.

But perhaps more importantly, I was able to develop a good relationship with my parents and siblings. My older brother and I were best friends growing up, instead of being in different cliques with different sets of friends, like we probably would have been if we had been separated in a public school system.

I could go on, as there are many reasons to home school, but suffice it to say that I am a living, breathing example that it works.

Home school. No contest.

As someone else already said: Right now, I get to sit here in my pyjamas and eat toast while reading people’s threads here and listening to a french CD. I get to study what I want, when and how I want; I can stop and start lessons when I want and if I want to do twice as much one day I can take the next day off to go and veg at the beach while other kids my age are stuck in school!

For some people, school at home is a great way to do both. You can never get enough education, but homeschooling is another way to do this. Yes! stay in school, but explore all of your options.

Well, from the experience of homeschooling my own 5 children since 1998 I would chose to be homeschooled.

If were talking about a online college or community college I would probably see what both are offering and what credits transfer etc. and go from there.

If I had a chance to do it all over, and if the choice of home schooling had been available to me I surely would have left school.

I received most of my “real life” education after my formal school years.

In my parents home we always had long talks around the table about everything under the stars

Our parents, had a lot of experience, and wisdom that they shared with us; they truly blessed us.

No amount of book learning, or formal schooling could ever duplicate that.

I would definitely pick to go to school at home. I think I can do so much more, because I am not tied to a school schedule.

No offense

Are you on drugs!

If I had a choice, get up and walk two miles to work (which I do) or STAY HOME and get paid for it, what do you think I’d choose!

You get up at 7, walk or get drive or ride a bus. You go into a building with a GIRL’s or BOY’s VP who yells at you, you eat HORRIBLE caffeteria food that is outragiously priced.

Or you stay home with the Fridge. That’s a choice!

I repeat, no offense implied. ARE YOU ON DRUGS

I get to stay home in my PJs and learn on a computer. I get to eat something from my own fridge or have my mom cook my favorite meal for lunch. OR I GO TO SCHOOL AN EAT STEAMED OATMEAL BURGERS WITH YELLOW STUFF FOR $2.50 and call it lunch!

No offense, ARE YOU ON DRUGS

I get to do TOMORROWS CLASSES TODAY because I’m motivated

You know in HOMESCHOOL there is no SICK DAY

Mom and make you sit at the computer and do a little work.

You can still watch DISCOVERY and SCIENCE and HISTORY on cable even wtih a 102 fever

Do I raise my hand and BEG teacher to give me a hall pass to go PEE PEE or do I just get up and go to my bathroom.

ARE YOU ON DRUGS — no offense!

Mom, I’m tired of doing Calculus problems can I play with my PS3 for a while

ARE YOU ON DRUGS

Do you smoke too much POT in the Girl’s or Boy’s bathroom.

DO YOU ENJOY GOING POTTY in a school bathroom or does it feel better at home!

ARE YOU ON DRUGS

WORK at home is the #1 amazing thing in this era and I know one girl who makes $15 an hour doing that.

And she loves it

WOULD YOU RATHER get up, get dressed go out and stock shevles at K-Mart for $7.50 an hour or WORK ON YOUR COMPUTER AT HOME in a TOWEL fresh from the shower for $15 an hour

ARE YOU ON DRUGS

This is a NO CONTEST issue

A friend of mine was getting paid $120,000 a year and he worked form home 4 days a week and went in one day a week

You have to be on HEROIN to say that’s wrong!

If by staying home you mean homeschooling, I’d prefer to go to school. Homeschool kids are considered freaks usually once they get to college because they have deteriorated social skills. If you want to homeschool, be sure you are involved in plenty of extracurricular activites (town sports, community band, dance classes, &c.) so you can build social skills.
