Wikipedia as reputable source?
When will people stop using Wikipedia as a reputable source? Wikipedia is edited by common folks such as ourselves. If your going to site a source, site a reputable one. It annoys me that people site Wikipedia and it happens a lot of here. If your going to site scholarly information use the original source and give credit where it is due.

Its just because so many people are willing to accept anything they see/read as fact, especially if its presented in an authoratative manner. I dont think this will change anytime soon. Its a good way to seperate the leaders from the sheep at least.

I cite it not because I think of it as being a completely reliable source, but as something that people can use to gain some info and then go off of to find more.
The difference is between taking everything you read on Wikipedia as absolutely true vs. using it as a springboard to find more links and sources of info.

Wikipedia is a stable beginning source. in case you have never even heard of your subject rely, Wikipedia could be a helpful way of having the fundamentals. some information is surprisingly solid, yet i could never cite it in a paper. Double verify your information with a greater respected source. a number of my professors could fail me for below using Wikipedia as my components.

Did you ask a question here? Or mainly just complain? 🙂
Anyway, I think wikipedia is indispensable. There is so much information there that isn’t anywhere else. However, you do have a good point: don’t just believe it blindly. Check the references! On the good pages at wikipedia, it will have references, where you can find the first-hand information.
