Why is the term “horny” used pertaining to wanting to have sex? Anyone know the origin?

I would swear they used to have more as I looked this up once a couple years ago. But the essential element is there: “to have the horn,” suggestive of male sexual excitement.
There’s little point in checking out “horn” as it has nothing pertinent.
