why is a hot water heater called a hot water heater if it heats cold water?

shouldn’t it be either called a cold water heater or a hot water maintainer?

Good question, I starred it. But I think the person above is right when he/she said it’s a water heater, not a hot water heater. That’s just what people have come to call it over the years.

Cold water goes through the system and it gets heated hence it being called a hot water heater.

Its cuz the heater produces hot water. Hot water heater isn’t saying its heating hot water but that the heater is making hot water Pretty Confusing!

I call it a water heater. It’s not a maintainer either, since it acts on the water by heating it.

A hot water heater is a unit that converts energy to heat and transfers that warmth to water. It’s connected to a cold water supply pipe, and has an outgoing hot water pipe, or system of pipes, that supplies heated water to the taps and appliances in your home.

its not called a hot water heater cuz it heats hot water. it heats your house using hot water. there are pipes all in your walls ceiling and floors. the heater pumps it all through these pipes, circulates it back, and then heats it again
