Why does forthayes high school give out summer homework????

Many schools give some kind of reading or other assignments over the summer. Part of the reason is that students lose about 30% of what they learned during the previous year over summer break. By giving even small assignments over the summer, schools can help students keep their minds engaged. This means they’ll be better prepared to jump into the new school year with much less time wasted on review when fall rolls around.
