I attended an online university and there are some positives and some negatives to attending college online in my opinion. The most obvious plus to attending school online would have to be the convenience of not having to wake up and drive to class every single morning and let’s not even think about the high cost of gasoline these days. The classes for online universities also last only from 5 to 7 weeks generally, allowing students to earn their degrees sometimes half the time it takes to earn them from traditional schools.

The positives, as everything else, definitely comes with a cost. That cost is in terms of how much tuition is while attending college online. For example, I attended South University Online and it costed me over $12,000 in the three quarters that i attended the school, which comes out to be over $16,000 per year. The traditional school I attend, University of Louisville is only $7,000 per year in terms of Tuition costs. So to be honest, it all depends on your needs and your individual situation. If you want the convenience of getting an education and don’t mind paying a higher price, by all means, attend an online college but I would recommend going to a traditional ground school because it saves you money, the quality of education you receive is actually better because you are in a classroom environment interacting with both students and professors verbally and not just typing responses to questions online, and also because you get to meet new friends and peers who could some day help you land your dream job.

On-line college is the best way to go if you are currently working and only have time in the evening to do the work. It is basically a bit cheaper because you’re not paying a professor to teach you, you’re not paying for the chair you get to sit in, etc.

The benefit of on-line college is the flexibility. Mind you, you do have to work, maybe a bit harder—more essays and such, but you’re on your own schedule. There are due dates, but you get to pace yourself.

It does require a lot of discipline and time-management. You need to pace yourself because you will not have anyone breathing over your shoulder and reminding you to turn in your homework, etc.

i’ve tried online classes and on-campus classes. both are ok, but i prefer campus classes. sometimes it’s harder to understand the course material and without a teacher to really guide you through it, it can be tougher. make sure you have a lot of free time, or you’ll never get the work done. also, these classes can be a bit more expensive than on-campus classes.
