Which job to take?

I have been offered two teaching jobs this year (first year teaching-absolutely no experience). I am 22 and a single mom, also in grad school. Job A is close to my house (10 min) but is part time. They offered full benefits and 23k a year. I would be there from 9:25 until 2:35 every day. It is 9th grade, and a very good school (college prep). It is also the high school I graduated from 4 years ago. Job B is 30 minutes from my house but farther in traffic, but closer to my school, which I will be taking classes Tues and Thurs night. My daughter (18 months) daycare will be located by my house. Job B offered full benefits and 39k per year. Hours are 8:30 to 4:30. I wouldn’t get to see my daughter at all on Tues and Thurs. It is a 7th grade job (middle school) and also a Title I school (“economically disadvantaged”) with a number of kids on the ESOL program who don’t speak English very well. The job stability looks better for Job B (they want me more) but Job A is a better sch

Take Job A….it may be less money, but I think the stress level of the job is the lesser of the two choices. It’s better to have time with your daughter now and with no regrets later.

You will have enough to do to keep up with school, your classes and being a mom. Don’t worry about job stability at this point. Consider Job A as a way to get your education done as well as earn some money but still have time for your child.

i’d take the job with the better school because it’s closer to your house and you will get to see your daughter. sounds like this job has more perks. the only perk to the second job is the money, right. i mean, geez, it’s almost 20k more!!! but your daughter is the most important thing right now, especially because she’s so young. when she’s older, she’ll be busy with school, just like you and you’ll miss the days when she was a baby and all you did was work. yeah, you had more money, but money doesn’t bring happiness, only instant gratification. although, you do get to save and all that crap….so i’m gonna go with job A.

i think you are doing a great job being a mother and a young woman with a degree and working on more. stay dedicated to your daughter and education. and do what your heart tells you. =)

Job A hands down. You can still have time for your studies and your daughter plus you are earning an income. You are also closer to daycare if there is an emergency. Also, you are familiar with the school for Job A.

That’s a really hard question — I was offered five jobs in one day — I looked at wear and tear on my car – on my time, and the money too. I might take the one closer to school and that appears it will be long standing. This would give you and your daughter a insured income.

Can you make it financially on the 23k? If so, I’d take Job A. You know you’ll be spending lots of extra hours on whichever job you take – you won’t get everything done during your time at school. Sounds like you have a real challenge ahead either way. Best of luck to you!

If you are family orientated then I would take job A.Your daughter needs you and will grow up fast. If there are any emergencies then you would be closer to your daughter. There will be plenty of job opportunities when your daughter grows up.Your daughter is number one priority.kIDS Suffer when they see less of their parents.Being a single mum she really needs you athis age.

take a you can spend more time with your daughter if it is the money issue ask them for maybe some part time work or look elsewhere close to home for part time work… Job a also gives you a chance to have your foot in the door in case something opens up

you been offered 2 jobs……beginning teacher-no experience–thats great…………put grad school on hold for now………YOU HAVE A CHOICE BETWEEN 2 JOBS………grad school will help raise your salary but you have enough on your plate now………teaching in a school i attended would be very awkward……….a couple of years at the other school and then youll have better options on what other school you can teach at in the future
