Short Answer- Biology M

The Chemistry SAT Subject Test is virtually impossible to score above 700 unless you have taken AP/IB or Honors Chemistry. That test asks very detailed questions, that you will most likely not have covered unless you’ve taken an advanced course.

Biology E is more difficult than Biology M for most, because many biology classes stress the molecular aspects of biology more than the ecological. However, if you were a whiz in the ecology unit of biology, by all means take that version.

Biology M is the easiest of the three for anybody. But if you have taken an advanced Chemistry class or were a whiz at ecological biology, consider those tests as easy.

I know that Chem is an extremely hard subject, whether or not you are in an advanced class or not. I haven’t taken Chem yet (I will be next year) but through all my older friends I’ve heard it was extremely hard and challenging. On the other hand, I did take Biology Honors and throughout the whole year I had a 97 average. When I took the Sat Subject Test in Bio, I did Ecology and got a 730 (91st percentile). Most kids in my school take the Molecular version because in our curriculum, ecology is taught at the very end of year. Sometimes it is not even fully taught by the time of the early June Test. Although most kids took Molecular, I did much better than most. Of my friends, I was the only one who got above a 700. So from my own experiences I would recommend Biology E. The questions may be harder than Molecular, but the concepts are SO much easier.

Lizett, the M is not Micro, it’s molecular. I took Molecular, as do most of the kids at my school, and they tend to score higher in that one than they do Bio E. However, Chem is very difficult, unless you have had a VERY good teacher. I actually had to take that one twice because my 1st score was soo bad. Whichever you take, I recommend buying a Kaplan or Princeton Review book especially for that test. Like everything else, you will benefit from practice.

Take the one for which you can commit yourself to studying diligently.

A caveat:

It is difficult to receive a score greater than 600 on Chemistry if you do not self-teach certain topics: because chem programs around the country focus on different areas, the SAT subject test covers all of them. Your teacher will not have taught all the necessary topics–it simply isn’t practical.

I would say Microbilogy because event though it sounds hard it applies the same information as chemistry, just easier, and it does away with some of the hard things in Biology like ecology.
