Which one is better/more recognised by universities, IB (Internatinal Baccalaureate) or A levels?

5 GCSE’s is roughly equivalent to a US High School Diploma, so A-Levels are well above that. My friend wants to study in the US at university level, and they will actually take you on GCSE results alone.
