Miss is commonly the term for an unmarried woman–but it is also used when the person addressing you does not know whether or not you are married. Age is not a factor.

She’s unmarried.
If a little boy sees a woman and needs to address her, he would call her ‘miss’ or ‘ma’am,’ unless he knew she was married, in which case, it would just be ‘ma’am.’ He wouldn’t address her, if he didn’t know her last name, as just “Missus.”
If an adult woman doesn’t want people to know her martial status (or if she’s divorced/seperated) she can be refered to as Ms __whatever__.

She is not married, has never been married. If someone is divorced it is changed to Ms. If you are married it is Mrs.
