Depends on how you learn and the type of test it is.

If there are a lot of problems, drill problems.

If there is vocab/concepts, use notecards.

If there are essays, read your notes and materials and try to synthesize the topics. . . .

If I had problems remembering an answer, I always associated the answer with something I know I would never forget. When I was little the first time was learning 9×4. For some reason I couldn’t get it so my mom turned the 3 upside down and drew two dots (like nipples) and called it boobie36. I have been learning to associate ever since, it got me through college and beyond. Find a way to match answers with experiences you’ve had and that helps…. You can always do the work and study hard. Here’s what I do.

First time through the book or chapter, highlight everything that could be turned into a question. Then I make flashcards out of what I highlighted. Questions on the front, answers on the back. Then I start going through the flashcards, out loud. If I can answer the card, without having to check the back to see if I’m right, I set that one aside. I just keep going through the pile until the pile is gone. Then I go through the pile again right before the test. By doing this you are covering the 3 ways that most people learn…reading, writing, and speaking.

That depends. Are you a visual, aural or tactile learner? I am a tactile learner so I learn best by writing down what I want to remember. Once I have written it, I can remember it for a long time. If I hear or see it, it only remains with me for a short time. Check yourself to see what type of learner you are and you will know what is the best way for you to study for a test. No matter what type of learner you are you can’t do your best if you are tired. In other words, all nighters are counter productive.

I always just reread all of my notes everyday, as often as possible. That way, I don’t have to exert much brain power, but it still really embeds the information into your brain.
