What is Recording Arts??
For my career, I want to be involved in singing. I want to work in a recording studio, etc. I really want to go to USC because I know they have a good music program. I was just wondering what “Recording Arts” is, because that is one of their majors. If its not suited for me, I was thinking Music Performance.

It depends on what you mean when you say “work in a recording studio.” As an engineer I can tell you that “Recording Arts” means learning to become a recording engineer which is the guy who pushes all the buttons and has to know a lot of physics of sound, love computer type environments, etc. If you are saying you want to sing in a studio, you should consider 2 options. 1) If you’re wanting to be a studio musician on-call you should forget going to school and save your money and try to get hooked up with the local musician’s union. It’s hard to break into this because you have to be really good and there’s a lot of competition. 2) If you’re wanting to be a solo artist, you should also save the money of going to school and get out there and pay your dues and try to get dicovered playing in clubs where you might get noticed by a record label. In all honesty, most music schools only teach you how to become a classical singer unless you can afford to go to a place like Berklee in Boston or Musicians Institute in CA. Really figure out what you want to do before you start shelling money out to schools figuring they might help you get where you want to go!
