A journal is like a diary. It is not the same as an essay.

The difference in an essay and a journal response is that the essay writing style is more formal and the journal response is somewhat casual and includes expressive, creative ideas.

Now don’t get scared by that:) Journal responses are easier to write than essays!

Let’s start with the second prompt -*write diary entries for 4 main events in the novel as if you were one of the characters and react to the events.

All you do is pretend you are the character; you think, act, and feel like the character. Then just write the diary entries as if it was you that these things were happening to. Don’t forget –include your thoughts, feelings and most importantly -emotions.

The first prompt -*Compare and contrast the main character in the first novel with the main character in the other novel.

Simple! Make a list of the character traits of each character.

Circle the things that similar and take note of what features are different.

Write approximately 3 paragraphs describing the similarities, then another 3, or so paragraphs, describing the differences. Don’t forget your introduction and conclusion.

I started with the second prompt because I believe it might be easier.

Good Luck!
