~It means Billy Gates did not have the forsight when he marketed Windows to remind his programmers that internal calendars in computer systems might have difficulty after 11:59:59 pm on 12/31/99. As it turned out, Y2k meant nothing as better minds than Billy’s anticipated and resolved the problem before the computers crashed.

The term is associated with the fact that many people thought most of the computers in the world would crash on that date (since many of them only had the last two numbers of the year programmed into the computers, so when the date changed over, it would be like it was 1900 to the computer). Thankfully this disaster did not happene because people worked frantically to correct the problem in 1999.
