What does the PS at the end of a message stand for?

According to Webster, it’s actually “postscriptum”, which is definitely Latin– “post” being “after”, and “scriptum” being “write; compose; draft” referring to the text of a letter or document. Usually people just say it means “post script”. Same thing. (If nothing else, I think “postscript” should properly be one word when you write it out.)

Pet peeve: NEVER write P.S.S. If you want to write something after the post script, you write P.P.S.– “post post script”. The other way just doesn’t make sense. 🙂

PS stands for “Post Script” which in turn means “after (post) written word” (script). A “PS” allows you to add more information at the end of your writing, instead of having to insert it within your script and result in a whole new re-write.

“Post” means AFTER (post surgical,post war, etc.)

“Script” describes the body of your letter.

Hence this note is post script (ps)

It is used to add a thought you have after writing the letter, an afterthought.
