It means to obey the rules or to get “in line” with how others are thinking or behaving. It’s usually said to those who are believed to be “acting up,” misbehaving, or otherwise showing disrespect.
The term has roots in the military (eg. to fall back into a line of soldiers), as well as with prostitution (eg. to obey one’s pimp), but nowadays it’s used more in popular culture.
