What can you do with a 4 year degree in psychology?

Hey guys,

Just wondering.. I’m wanting to go into psychology but I’ve heard that a degree in psychology is basically useless unless you have a masters/ + Is there anything that I could do that makes decent money while I’m getting my masters?? Or do I have to wait until I’m completely done with everything to make any decent money?

No degree is useless. My degree has NOTHING to do with what I’m doing right now, but I couldn’t have my position without a degree. Generally, all degree holders are invited to apply for many different types of positions. I found my passion while in college, but there’s no degree for admissions coordinators.

I would always encourage you to continue your education if you really want to pursue a career in psychology. There is always a way to do this, and college is great! Don’t graduate to early.

In the meantime, speak with your career services department about where you can be looking, and what kind of positions are available. They will help you with everything.

Depends. Why are you interested in psychology? If you really enjoy the subject matter than going on to grad school is the best bet. Otherwise it just serves as proof that you went to college and have certain skills and abilities. I have known many psychology majors that have gone onto law, teaching, therapy, social work, business, etc.

Yeah, I have a 4-yr. Psych. degree from a great school no less. You are right, absolutely useless. I think they called it the English degree of the 90’s.

Fortunately, after I got out of undergrad, I went to law school and did well there. Made my bones that way.
