Generally speaking, the four core classes in 9th grade are:

Algebra 1

English/Literature 1

Bilogy 1 or IPC

World Geography

Rounding it out with two electives chosen from:

Foreign language

Keyboarding

PE/Health

Art

Music

That’s just a real basic, general freshman level plan, that will work nicely in to a college prep program.

If you want, check out the various diploma programs at your local highschool. They should have this posted on a website.

Although homeschooling is about freedom, sometimes it helps to maintain focus by having a plan and there is nothing wrong with using someone else’s diploma program to guide the order of your studies.

I use it myself for my daughter, who is a 9th grader. Well, technically she will be a 10th grader next month. Were DOES the time go?

Entering into my freshman year of highschool I felt completely unprepared. The middle school I was in did a poor job of preparing students for the next four years. I had no idea what honors was or anything of the sort. My suggestion is to join as many clubs and activities as you’d like. If available, you should choose to take a Study Hall so you definitely have time to do school work. If you’re smart enough, take honors and AP classes. Don’t settle with easy classes, challenge yourself. You can always get a tutor if you feel overwhelmed and the teachers are more than happy to help you in need. The more you do in highschool, the easier it will be in college.

Each state has state standards. Pick a good state like Connecticut or Massachusetts and do a state standards search. I can tell you that my state, Colorado, has its standards on the Internet. State standards are organized by grade.

learn to take good notes and start reading novels considered classics. AP classes are not for “smart” students but for students who want to challenge themselves. learn algebra if u haven’t already had it. learn more about ur state’s history. Read more about the Great Depression, (how it happened, when, etc)
