There are too many oversea Asian doctors here in the U.S.. Should I, an Asian also, try to become a doctor?

Here’s some 411 on the doctor situation. The reason we have so many foreign doctors is because we fail to recruit enough doctors from the educational system here in the United States. We simply just don’t have enough people going to medical school in the US to cover the growing demand for physicians. If you feel a drive to be a physician then do it, being a certain race shouldn’t deter you from that goal.
Secondly, with regards to your second statement you are completely off-base. Good Universities only accept a certain amount of “whites” It’s called affirmative action. While I won’t go so far as to say you have “advantages” because you are asian (like it is for most of the minorities) but rather that you are neutral and don’t benefit or lose-out because of Affirmative Action. Need an example? Cal Berkley, look at the percentage of Asian people compared to the population.
Good universities don’t prefer whites from high-income families more than asians. They’re basically in the same boat. Universities give preference to other minorities and that’s basically it. Maybe at your high school level asians get treated the worst (I know that’s the case for top public magnet high schools in CA like Lowell and Whitney), but it’s not so bad once you get to college and beyond since they have a much larger pool to choose from.
If you want to be a doctor, go do it. Why do you think there are so many Asian docs? They have the work effort and intelligene to do it. Being a doc is not easy. However, a person from any race can be one.
Go for it. And if one school has racist policies, apply to another and another. I wouldn’t care if every doctor on earth were Asian as long as I get good care and a kind ear 🙂
You sound like you really care about medicine. We need more doctors who are passionate about what they do and not just how much they make. The world needs doctors like you. Go for it!
But don’t base your decision as the odds of entrance only concern yourself with what you want
If it’s in your heart, and you have the talent and determination, YOU GO, BOY!
See ya’ later, doc.
