Should i switch high schools?

I will be a junior this coming year.

I am really unhappy at my school. there are so many drugs there (i know they are everywhere) but the school wont even drug test! they accept everyone that applies and it just doesnt feel like “my school” you know what I mean. they are some scary students there. and i recently found out that 7 teachers quit and we have a new principal which makes me wonder why would so many teachers left? something must be wrong with the school.

im hesitant to switch schools since this is my 3rd high school thanks to hurricane katrina.

i dont have many friends at my school and i think a change of scenery would be good.

what would you do in my situation?

i would definitely change schools if my school was having those problems. i think you should switch. you can make a whole lot of new friends and get away from the bad environment. i think that you should also probably report the school because that kinda of behavior in a school is unacceptable. i mean if i were a parent too, i wouldn’t want to be sending my children to a place like that.

I actually went through a similar situation in 5th grade. My best friend (at the time) announced she was switching schools. We went to a small Catholic school and she was going to start middle school at a public middle school. I hardly had any friends and my best one was moving. This school had a much better musical program as well. I changed schools to be with her and reap the benefits of public education. I got involved in choir and had roles in two musicals. I missed the comfort that came from being around the people I grew up with, though. However, if you really feel that switching schools would be for the best, than go for it. Don’t wait until another year passes though. You’ll want to graduate with people you know pretty well… so make a move soon. Oh, and think about which school’s activities would look better for a college application or scholarships. A wider course selection and theater programs would probably be beneficial, however, you need to keep your grades as high as possible… so don’t change schools and get involved in so many activities that your grades suffer. Colleges don’t care if you were too busy to get top marks make ‘A’ honor roll. I know… I have a 3.57 GPA and all the scholarships I apply for go to students with 3.9 GPA and 4.0’s. In general, do the best you can. Always try to stay above a 3.5 or the equivalent. If you get good grades where you are, then you probably will at a new school. Just remember to follow your heart if you want to be happy. Good luck… hope this helped.

Wow! Tough high school years…! Sadly drugs are everywhere. I don’t know if switching would be the best thing. Have you talked to your parents?…a counselor? Try a site called Great Schools .net ( maybe .com) anyways you can see reviews about your school and other schools in your area.

I suggest that you do some research. The District you live in should list the names of the other high schools and, you may find out about the other schools using the site I recommended.

If it is any consolation, I will keep you in my prayers. High School is a tough time period adding in the additional problems you gave makes it that much harder. Have you tried to find something that your really interested in and tried to just stay focused on it…?

Or how about volunteering ? It won’t change your H.S. problem but, it will make you feel better about your self.

GOOD LUCK!

It’s so sad to read about this, and in a Private high school yet! You deserve a quality education and a safe place to learn. Have you considered (heaven forbid) a public high school? You can go online and check for school ratings, test scores, and public comments.

Try these sites for more information.

By the way, when I was teaching in private school, most of the teachers there were biding their time until they could find a public school job.

Please let us know how you’re doing, OK?

You need to do what’s best for you. If you are unhappy, leave… Your education comes first. If your parents can afford it, I suggest you switch schools. I know its hard to keep switching but think of it as a fresh start. Good Luck!

I say switch…If your not comfortable and you feel you’re not learning anything then why stay. You say you haven’t made any real friends there so there is nothing to lose. To avoid this in the future research your schools in your area so you know the environment before you get there.
