should i play high school sports next year? sports or/and school?

well my dad keeps arguing that i shouldnt play water polo next year. he doesnt seem to get that colleges look at extracurricular activities. all he cares about his my gpa.. honestly im getting sick of it. he keeps saying that i wont get into any UC universities if i play water polo next year. im going to be sophmore next year. my grades as a freshman were a 3.71 average but i took classes that were above the average like chemistry. the reason i got a 3.71 was because i hadnt gotten used to school/ sports yet. im wondering if i should play water polo next year? is it worth it in the end? my sophomre i plan on taking 2 ap classes, 1 h. AP euro and AP physics

If you enjoy it and make the cut…go for it! If you are doing it for any other reason…forget it. High school May be the only time you can enjoy some of the events so consider it seriously before dropping.

When I was in high school, my dad told me the same thing. I ended up not playing softball my senior year. I regret it to this day. You are only a kid once. You will NEVER have an oppurtunity to go back and redo high school. Live your life to your fullest, and do what you think you should do. I believe you should still do your best as far as grades go; however, I think you should play water polo. It’s not only great exercise, but it’s what you want to do, too. Good luck!!

It depends if you think you can balance your grades, your family, your friends, sports, and other stuff. If you believe you can handle all that then you are all set. Remember that there are alot of practices and you may want to have different things in you life. How about doing the Newspaper comittee or the Drama club instead of water polo? Don’t think about dropping out of school beacuse I know sports are important but education is more important.

Go for it. If you know that the sport you want will never distract your study go. Feel free its your life and decision.

It only takes once in a life time so grab for it. It is not bad thing just balance your study and the sport water polo.

And just tell your Dad that don’t worry you will do your best to finish your study and promise to him that this will never ditract to your study.

you can handle it.. water polo practice should be only for like 1 quarter and then you can go into swimming, and then yeah. practice should only take 3 hours max, you can definitely handle those classes.

fyi, euro was killer, but i lived thru it. got a 4 on the exam, class was okay, but i had a GREAT teacher. physics will be okay. you can manage your time wisely and be okay. talk to ur dad. gl

it depends on you. if you can balance your academic subjects in sports, why not. sports is very in important to our health, you can be strong and healthy and it develops our personality and mind. but, don’t forget that your first priority is your academic not sports. now, talk to your dad and make a condition to him. tell him if your grade is not good while you’re playing, then automatically you stop playing it and you will concentrate to your studies.

Schools like kids that are well rounded….. it looks bad if all you do is study.
