Really really nervous?

I’ve been doing homeschool now for five years I haven’t been in school since the 5th grade and I was only in the fifth grade for about two weeks I didn’t do homeschool like most kids who went to “functions and stuff” so I haven’t been around kids my age in awhile. Plus science/ history wasn’t required for homeschool in my state but it will be for public school I’m supposed to be a freshmen soon (against my wishes). Is there anything someone can tell me that will help me be less freaked out?

Don’t worry you may have never been to a public school in a while but the new freshman will be just as worried as you. Making the transfer from 8th to 9th grade was never easy and most of the people they knew often want to many different high schools. Going to high school as a freshman is like starting a new life. No one knows who you are and it’s your job to make sure they know who you are. You join clubs and try out for sports and don’t let people run all over you and make you do something you don’t want to. High school isn’t bad after you get used to it you just got to know what your goals are for the year. You’ll do fine if you just be yourself and find out who you truly are and what you truly enjoy doing. Good Luck! ( I am going to be a junior)

Ok so you went a few years without Science and History so I suggest you try to get a tutor, or grab some Science and history books so you can do some catching up on those subjects.

You will probably be ahead of everyone in public school in regards to your other subjects.

You didn’t have any outside hobbies that exposed you to other kids your age while you were being homeschooled during this time? Do you have siblings?

It will be hard to get used to and being nervous is natural. The only tip I can give you for fighting with that is just try taking slow deep breaths to calm yourself down.

You are going to have to get used to it, but it will be good for you since you haven’t been around your peers for such a long time. You’ll be more prepared when you enter college, and the work force.

Best of luck to you.

Take it easy and enjoy it. I hope it’s a good school. My public school wasn’t. Anyways, why haven’t you been around other homeschoolers your age?! Science is cool cause you get to do experiments, like when I was in public school we made fire balls in chemistry and we got to blow things up. lol. History was cool because our teacher used a lot of movies that were related to the time that we were studying, like Saving Private Ryan. Don’t get involved with the wrong crowed! This is very important. And don’t ever skip or ditch school. Once you have done this for the first time, you will continue to do this. Well, that what I did. lol.

I was in a Private School for about 9 years. In a Charter school for 1 and Homeschooled for one. I finally went to Public school this year. It was very hard for me because I had never been around so many kids at school before. I would find maybe one or two friends at school to help guide you. Be friendly and nice. In the schooling department. That was hard for me too because Public School might be a little behind or harder. Because you won’t get individual attention. Really foucs, take notes and ask for help as much as possible. Make it a pointe to go in after school or have a friend teacher that can help. If you ever need advice im right here. To not freak out:

1) Know that you’re okay the way you are.

2) Have faith in your ability to adapt and learn to play the social games that go on, or to step aside and do your own thing if the social games are morally questionable.

3) Know it’s okay to be nervous. Accept it. It’d be really weird if you weren’t nervous.

4) Find out about what science and history was learned in middle schools where you live and read up about them a bit during the summer. Or, find out what you’d be learning in science and history your freshman year and do a little review of that material before school starts. Or do both.

5) Accept that you’re nervous. I know I’ve already written it, but it’s really, really important! It’s okay to be nervous and have butterflies and all that.

6) Think of the whole thing as an adventure. Imagine it as a visit to another planet, if that’ll help. 🙂 You stay observant, you try to conform a bit to the general expectations, you do as asked by teachers and you’ll be fine.

Don’t worry just relax. I went to public school and I really do not think that while in High school we touched on any of the history that I learned in grade school. As for the science part. Just use the internet. There are so many great sites to help you with anything that you do not understand. I would be willing to bet that you know just as much Science and History as the public schools. You just didn’t learn it from a book you learned it by living life.

Most kids are nervous when they go into a different school, so you have the right to be nervous coming out of homeschooling. Relax and be yourself. Other kids and teachers might be interested in your homeschooling.

Most ppl are nervous about going into high school, home schooled or not. So dont worry you wont be the only one. Dont be so worried you’ll be fine. On your first day just follow your schedule and go with the flow. Remember that everyone eles is probably nervous too and just be yourself. Everything will fall into place.

i had to move to another school when younger so i have an idea of what you feel, but since you haven’t had contacts with much people at your age it could be little stange for you.just laugh when they do and you will blend in.look around to see what people you will have to deal with and find someone with whom you feel comfortable.i am sure you will like it more than the homeschool,or if not you will see the other site which could be somehow helpful experience for you
