Normally there will be a lot of websites about being exchange student. You just need to Google them (try searches like: Norway exchange student, …). There also should be agent at your coutry/city who work for those websites’organizations. I prefer agents since I can just come to them and ask ton of questions face to face. Oh, and mine was “Aspect Foundation”, but I am affraid they only offer U.S.
In my experience, you only need to get a C and up to be an exchange student (and remain that grade through your exchange year). You also need to speak the country ‘s language (the more fluently the better). Your agent will find you a host family whom you will stay with for that whole year. The family would provide you a place to stay + family meals. Other fees like restaurant, lunches at school, movie, books, school supplies, … will be taken out from your pocket (so make sure to open a bank account when you arrive). You can change your host family (vice versa, the family can kick you back to the agent to wait and get another host) and it’s not a pleasant thing to go through so make your profile really clear(you will create one on the website which the families would look and decide if they want to host you), mention things like your hobbies/ activities/ religion; your like and dislike, basically. My first host was hardcore Baptist while I am Catholic, that didn’t work out very well 🙁
The school will be free since it’s only high school level. There also should be a local agent there who will contact and check on you often and a region agent, too.
Oh, and when you already become one, try your hand on all things possible since you only have ONE year there(not bad things, duh). I didn’t try a lot of clubs and stuff, wish I had.
Good luck.
Sorry, Mr Question-Asker, I dont really have any advice for you, except that if you do come to Australia, stay in a city or along the coast. The country is so boring! And don’t come during our summer!!
