If the perimeter of the rectangle is 28in, then the equation would be 28 = 2[(2x-1)+x] where x is the width of the rectangle. The length is 2x-1 because the length is one inch less than twice the width. Just distribute and solve for x.

Eh… Not quite sure how to write it out, but I’ll try anyways.

Rectangle Perimeter = 2 (W) + 2 (L)
W = X, L = 2X – 1
2 ( X ) + 2 (2X – 1) = 28 in
2X + 4X – 2 = 28 in
6X – 2 = 28 in
6X = 30
X = 5
Width of the Writing Pad is 5 inches.

The width of the rectangle should be 56 feet In a rectangle the two lengths equal 176 feet total You subtract the 176 from the 294 feet that leaves you 118 feet You divide the 118 feet by 2 for the 2 sides and you get 56 feet for each side width

length is 2(width)-1
width = x
perimeter of rectangle is 2(length) + 2(width)
2(2x-1) + 2x=28
4x-2+2x=28
6x-2=28
6x=30
x=5
width is 5
length is 2(5)-1=10-1=9

P= 2L + 2W
