Optometry…?

I am seriously considering the career choice of an optometrist and I would like to know if anyone here is an optometrist! I am currently attending a community college to gain my Associate Science degree and I have been looking through various colleges to see where I should go! I would just like to know what other eye doctors have done for their education, how they were able to find a job, APPROXIMATELY how much the job pays, and if you truly do enjoy your job! Thanx so much!

I’m not an optometrist; I’m a journalist. Last year for one of my projects, I interviewed two optometrists. According to what they said, there is a great demand for women in the field. Both of these doctors are very successful, having opened several offices at different locations. I have no idea what they earn, but apparently they are doing quite well. As long as people have eye problems, there will be a need for optometrists. They don’t have to study as long as ophthalmologists, who are medical doctors and treat diseases of the eye, but they are able to pinpoint not only eye problems, but other physical conditions that reveal themselves in eye examinations. Also, they are able to prescribe corrective lenses. Practically everyone wears either glasses or contacts. I believe it would be a very lucrative field for you to enter. Good luck!

Hi there…. I’m an optometrist, and I really like my job. I don’t have to answer to anyone, I’m my own boss… My schedule is whatever I want it to be and I take vacations whenever for the duration of my choice. People respect me at work. The employees and patients call me doctor. I graduated 2 years ago from the Montreal School of Optometry in Canada. I loved the city so much I moved there after graduating. The biggest advantage of studying in Canada is that education is practically free. The demand for optometrists is very high across America, so finding a job will never be a problem in any city. Everyone in my class found a job long before graduating. I know that salaries are higher in the States, but here in Canada you can expect optometrists to make at least 90k-100k a year…. it doesn’t matter if they have experience. The only thing that will affect your revenues is if you OWN the business… then the sky is the limit as to how much you can earn. If you ask me, that’s the best freakin’ job on earth!
