my friend says emo is just people cutting them selves but i say its also a type of band who’s right?

Why do you care?? I have no doubt that you can(and have) get the info in many ways.

Again, who cares ? I assume from what I’ve read here in answers to your Q that there are ‘bands’ of some sort, or ‘cults’ of some sort that do such things.

It’s ridiculous. Let your curiosity go, and get on with life. Whether you know what ’emo’ is or not doesn’t matter, unless it’s ‘peer pressure’. If you’ve got what ’emo’ is now – take it to the bank – then forget you even cared at all !!

IMHO or not so IMHO this is just another part of MTV’s music-killing. Generally emo’s mainly influcenced by music, but emo is nothing else like punk, post-punk, gothic, etc.

Just a century ago no one complained about emo, it’s been all about that dark-wearing kids listening to…ahem…whatever it was called in english at that time 🙂 …and a century before it’s been that metal-heads and the century before its been rock and before it’s been rockn’roll and before and before and before.

So emo is – like every subculture – not just about music, neither about cutting(?! pure nonsense as I would say) and even not about how to dress. It’s a lifestyle. Combining some, leaving others, finally evolving ’til something new is created.

But just listen to some early emo-core bands. And get a feeling for it if it really interests you, else you want understand any of the subcultures, just taking opinions of people that can’t really describe it 😀 (yeah, that means me too 😉
