Hi – I’m currently attending U-M Ann Arbor, so I can probably help you out. If you want to do broadcasting, there’s a great student radio station that will definitely give you experience – and you can take film/screen classes that could help you to round out your radio education.

Your essays are KEY to getting in. Good ACTs are also crucial (I think the average when I applied was a 27, but a 30 or better will definitely help – if you can take it again if you don’t have a 30 or better, I would recommend it) but solid, creative, truthful essays will help. Tell them about your community work, put a good spin on it, don’t be like everyone else who just wants to come to U-M because of the reputation or the high academic standards – because they’ve told us that they weed those right out.

Also, APs are great. If you have time to take Advanced Placement, I would definitely try to get those in – they like to see that you’re already taking college classes.

So again – ACTS, essays and APs. Good luck!!

It’s really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really REALLY hard to get in. SERIOUSLY. Especially if you’re a white male. I hate to be blunt but, even with the new law, they DO use affirmative action.
