The university set a new precedent in selectivity, admitting about 25 percent of the more than 37,000 undergraduate applicants, according to Tim Brunold, associate dean and director of undergraduate admissions.
“We admitted 170 fewer freshmen than last year, and that was intentional,” Brunold said. “USC is really popular, and every year we’re attracting better and better students.”
With the caliber of USC students on the rise, Brunold is proud to call the university “one of the truly elite institutions in the country.” Admissions statistics for USC now parallel that of universities such as UCLA, he said.
Rising SAT scores of admitted students are one indicator of the university’s increased competitiveness.
“About 72 percent of admitted students scored 2000 or higher on the SAT,” Brunold said.
