Is this correct punctuation?

The kids in my class, most of whom I don’t talk to, all seemed to praise me on that day, as if I were some kind of hero.

Is the comma before ‘as’ correct, seeing as how it’s nonessential to the meaning of the passage.

Yes, that would seem correct. When you use commas, they are mainly for pauses to put more feeling in your writing. We use them all the time when we’re not even writing. You used them exactly the way they should be in this case.

This is good. You were correct to “comma off” most of whom I don’t talk to. Forget what it is called, but you need to do that. The kids in my class, the subject, all seemed to praise me on that day, the predicate, and as if I were some kind of hero, “unnecissary” information.

I would not put a comma there – but the other answerer is correct: commas are meant to be a reflection of how it would be spoken. When I read your sentence aloud, I would not pause there so I see no need for a comma. How about you? Read it aloud and see if you pause. If you do, then leave the comma there.

The sentence is correct either with the comma or without. Some authors do not like to use too many commas.

(So you have a choice)

I think the comma between ‘day’ and ‘as’ isn’t necessary.

…….’most of whom I don’t talk to’…… is a subordinate phrase that could be taken out of the sentence. It would then read:

‘The kids in my class all seemed to praise me on that day as if I were some kind of hero’.

i think it’s ok since while speaking we can’t actually say the whole thing without a pause,so the comma is justified

It’s not necessary, but it’s not incorrect.
