Is there such thing as study abroad in your own country?
i’m from the US and i want to do a semester in NYC, but then it wouldn’t be “abroad”. where can i find information on this? do you know of any programs?

There are two types of exchanges in the US: international (if you want to study a semester or year abroad), and national (if you want to study for a semester or year at a university elsewhere in the US). You want to contact your school’s office of national student exchanges, if they have one that is separate from that of international student exchanges. The offices may be combined.
They can help you figure it all out, including which schools you can go to where the credits will transfer back to your home school, etc.
National student exchanges are really common.

You pretty much answered your own question. Aborad = in or to a foreign country or countries. As far as out of state education, of course you can study anywhere that you apply and get accepted. The main difference is in tuition costs. Non-resident tuition can be up to 10 times more than the costs in your home state. Another option is to move where you’d like to go to school and after 1 year you will be considered a resident.
