its not. its a trick question. X^2 + 8x + 16 is a perfect squeare.

No. At first it may seem it, since 1 is a perfect square and so is 16, and 8 is the combination of doubled roots. However, it’s important to look at the signs in between as well. it’s impossible to have a perfect square term with a negative sign in front of the final term. the -16 is a dead give away.

no. in fact, you have to use the complicated quadratic formula to get the values of x here. a useful note to remember is that perfect squares always have positive constants (ex. x^2 – 6x + 9)
