to find an inverse equation, you simply swap the x and y variables, then isolate the y on one side.

for example: if y = x+2, the inverse would be:

x=y+2

subtract 2 from each side to get:

x-2=y

which is the same as:

y=x-2

to find the inverse of any function you just swap the x and y variables around.

y= x-4

becomes

x = y – 4 (by switching x and y around for each other)

then make y the subject by adding 4 to both sides

x + 4 = y – 4 + 4

x + 4 = y

therefore the inverse of y = x – 4 is y = x +4
