in the conclusion paragraph of essays… is it okay to start it with “in conclusion..”?

one of my teachers said it was okay, but is it the best choice? i would think that essay checkers would get tired of hearing it… would it be better to say something like “in the end it is the printing press that enabled martin luthers ideas to be voiced more then john calvins”…or what ever

if there are better things to start the conclusion paragraph with, will you give examples?

In conclusion is kind of a bland ending. but the ending depends on what u are writing about. The martin luther king ending sounded good to me!

You can it with in conclusion, but your right it is very formal and kind of boring and there are some stronger ways to end an essay. A few suggestions

generic

As you can see{your point}

{a few main points of your essay} led to {the last thing you need to talk about}

Comparitive

{person A} and {person B} were { alike} in {list some ways} but in the end they were both able to blaze a very individual trail

Hope this helps

Well, I think “in conclusion” sounds fine, but you are right. It might sound a little “tired.” I teach elementary school, but I do teach a basic concept during writing. I tell the kids to quit using tired words (words we hear ALL the time) and use COKE words (Words that have energy, like a coke gives us) in their writing. The following websites are sites I have used to find different transition words you can use THROUGHOUT your essay, including at the end. Hope this helps!!

Oh, yes….to find more of these lists just google, “Transition word list” or Transitional word list”

It’s OK but it’s as effective as soggy celery in making an impact.

Ultimately, it was the …

And this proves that it was …

Over and above all those other mechanisms used, it was … The printing press was the real core of his success.

You don’t have to have an ending sentence to the concluding paragraph. Don’t start any new ideas, and briefly reinforce the main idea. “In conclusion…” is a big fat no-no.

A definite no. Unless youa re suppose to write a conclusion. Say ”The conclusion I have drawn from writing this ______” and so on. State where you got your sources from and also what inspired you to find for this.

Although it is legal in the rules of grammar, if you are writing a formal essay, I would not reccomnd it.

No. Better to start with something like “Overall, ……” if you must. You didn’t start the paper with “In essay, …” so don’t end it like that.
