If there are any kindergarten/first grade teachers, please help me.?

I really like teaching kids of a young age how to read, write, and basically learn things. In other words I was wondering what it would take to become a teacher for that age group. Like how many years of college, if I have to have a special GPA, If I have to take special courses, If I have to take special tests, and about how long does it take to get your teaching degree? Oh and about how long does it take to complete all of this? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It takes about 4 years, unless you cram it, and take summers too. That is a wonderful age group to teach. One good thing about teaching is that you don’t have to decide the grade you want to teach before you start college. As you get into your training, you will see yourself drawing toward a certain age group. I have a crazy personality, and do well with the younger group. You don’t have to have an extremely high GPA, but you do have to take a Praxis teacher test during your senior year (www.secretsstudyguide.com). I love teaching. I challenge everyone to give it a try. Hope this helps. God Bless!

I went to a community college the first two years because it’s cheaper than a univerisity plus you’ll be able to get an associate’s degree. Then, you can transfer to a university.

First, you should go up to the community college, get an application for the college and one for FAFSA- financial aid. Federal pell grants do not have to be paid back but student loans do. Fill those out and it’ll all fall into place from there. You will need your ID and high school diploma to apply at any college.

You should talk to a college counselor and he’ll be able to answer any other questions.

Good luck…you’ve chosen a noble profession.

It is a four year program, a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Your best bet is to visit the web site of your State Department of Education and look for certification requirements, as they vary slightly from one place to another. Many states require testing for certification as well as the degree. For specific degree requirements, check with your college or university — some require a good gpa to enter the education major.

You have to have a bachelors degree.

If you’ve already got one, or are not majoring in education, then I recommend going the route I did. With the school district I work for I applied and went through their Alternative certification program. Basically, in a couple months they had me in the classroom, WHILE my training was going on… usually weekends and sometimes evenings. The benefit is that you get paid for being a teacher (you are) while you are learning what you would take in the education classes in college.
