I’m think about taking a year off b/t undergrad and graduate school. Should I still take the GRE now??
I am burnt out with school!! Because I’m not sure if I want to wait or not, I think I should take the GRE this fall that way if i change my mind and do go to grad school, I would have taken it, you know? If I take it now, will the scores be applicable when I apply in 2009? Will the grad school frown upon it because the scores will be more than a year old?
Is it even a good idea to take a year off?? What should I do during my year off? My advisor suggested human resources.
I don’t know…. I don’t really have a lot of time to decide either as I graduate in the spring.
Thanks.

Another possibility is to take it now as a practice with a chance of “fixing” your score in the future. If you put it off, then do poorly, you will have no net. But, if you keep scores, I believe they are averaged at many places.
As far as taking time off, it is okay I think as long as you stay focused. I took time off between my second and third year of my first Bachelor degree. Then, took a two year hiatus before getting my Master degree. Finally, I took a year off before working on my PhD (which I’m still doing). What matters is that you do not give up, and you stay committed to your goal.
If you’re burnt out, absolutely take time off. Therapy can be draining, and, unless you counsel adolescents and want them to relate to you, there’s no advantage to being a young therapist. People will likely trust you more when you seem to have some life experience. One of my friends (now a PHD) spent 4 or 5 years working in a bank in her 20’s before going back to counseling.
