I am going to transfer with a major of Psychology, UCLA or UCD?

I am a pre-med too. my major is going to be Biopsychology(in UCLA) or Psychology B.S.(in Davis)

where should I transfer to? which one will prepare me to be a better candidate of med school?

also, what’s the main difference between med school of UCLA, davis, irvine, SF and san diego?

P.S. I am interested in psychiatry.

As far as undergrad work goes, I would choose UCLA over Davis…only because I think they are a more reputable choice for your major.

As far as Med Schools go, it doesn’t matter which one you go to. All of them have the same graduation requirements for your MD, so you will be prepared no matter what.

As far as Residency goes, I would choose to go to UCLA Medical Center or somewhere in the Bay Area. Reason being because I think there will be higher occurences of psychiatric patients in those areas.

It’s actually Psychobiology or Psychobio for short at UCLA. It’ll be more prestigious and it’ll challenge you. But it may hinder your chances at med school because you’d get a lower GPA than you would at Davis. It’s all about the GPA. Plus, there’s 0 premed counseling help and a lot of bureaucratic mess to jump over here. So you’d essentially be on your own to fend off the other premeds (the typical UCLA Life Science 2 class is 90% premed, only 5-10% are allowed to get an A). So it’ll be up to you. UCLA will be more challenging and will throw more obstacles at you but it will be more prestigious if you survive.

There isn’t much differences between the med schools save for the fact that UCSF and UCLA are top-ranked schools and the rest are middle-level ones.

UCLA will look nice to med schools b/c it’s more prestigious. However, the competition is less at Davis so your GPA might be higher. Depends on which way you want to go. Risk either way. Personally, I’d choose UCLA.

There’s no real difference in all the med schools. Worry about getting into them, then start looking into which one you want to go to. Seriously putting the horse before the cart. However, in terms of having a goal, have UCSF as your dream school followed by UCLA. San Diego is a good backup with Irvine and Davis as the safety schools. However, if you’re that awesome, you’d be looking at Stanford, Harvard, and Yale as well.

I’d go to UCLA. UCLA is more prestigious than Davis, although the two are great colleges and are reputable in the majors of your choosing. As long as you fulfill the requirements for medical school, then your chances should of getting into the medical schools should be similar, whether you choose LA or Davis for undergraduate. The school of Medicine at the UC’s are all good. UCD/LA/SF have great medical schools always coming in top 40 in the nation.
