You could be an HR generalist or a HR specialist. An HR generalist specializes in all aspects of HR: hiring, recruitment, compensation, benefits, etc… An HR specialist specializes in 1 aspect of HR. Many smaller companies have HR generalists and larger companies will have HR specialists.

The career opportunities are there, if you know employment laws and compensation and benefit policies. A degree in HR is a good start, especially an MBA, but you will need experience, I suggest either interning or obtaining a position in a small company, many companies will not hire HR people without experience. Knowing a foreign language can also be helpful, if the company has many nonEnglish speaking employees.
