How many people think the GRE is an unfair entrance requirement to Grad School?

I am just curious because the math they test, I never took. I have been out of HS for 10 years and out of college for 4. I wasn’t required to take Geometry and in College I took the Statistics route. I didn’t so well on the math portion. I think it’s unfair they are testing you on math you should have had in high school considering that most people will have been at least 5 years out of high school!

I think that the GRE is pretty fair. If you are trying to get into a graduate field that doesn’t require math, then the university you plan to attend most likely won’t care how low you scores on the math section are. Though if you are wanting to do pyshcology, business, etc. there is some math involved, so the graduate school people will probably lok at the score.

They are unfair in that regard. I had the same exact situation. I am betting it all on what I have been told: that the programs are really only concerned about the portions of the GRE that test relevant skills for your field. But it still sucks. I’ll get over it.. any day now.

Good luck.

I think it’s a big crock. You are paying their salary, for pete’s sake! Don’t they want your money? I suppose if a field is competitive, they could justify using test scores, but for crying out loud! You have a bachelor’s degree! It’s not like you’re some slacker who can’t finish anything!

For that matter, I have met many a person with a Master’s degree and they are not ‘smarter’ than any other degreed people. So why are they making it so difficult to return to school? You would think they were having a stampede for their program or something.
