This fall, I’ll get some extra money. I live at home and am enrolled in a teaching certification program. I’m going to be student teaching (and unable to work for twelve weeks), so it’s enough to cover what I need until I can work.

When I lived off-campus, I got enough to cover rent, utilities and food. I lived alone in a one-bedroom apartment and got enough to cover that so I could afford to work part-time while going to school full-time.

When i get extra money back i invest it so that it can gain returns about the interest accumulating on it and will generate income to help pay back the other money. I dont use it for frivolous things like buying clothes or cars like some other students i know. I once knew a guy who bought two cars with the “extra” money he got back and when he graduated he ended up oweing over $100,000.

Enough extra to pay for the gas to drive to class and back and that’s about it. Not many students are able to get a lot of money back.

extra money from what, a student loan?

To one of the responders: In the USA it’s illegal to use the money from federal student loans for anything but schooling.

I get ‘extra’ money back every semester that I use to catch up on credit card bills or make major purchases.

I usually have about 1,000 but that simply covered when I paid in train fare for the semester plus extra supplies.
