First, you need to get the y by itself, so subtract x from both sides

x+y=5

y=5-x

Then, rearrange to the correct format:

y=-1x+5

This will have a negative slope on a graph

Think back to Algebra and solve the equation for y. Viola!

For a little more detail…

Subtract x from both sides of the equation:

x + y = 5

x+y-x= 5-x

y = -x + 5
