There are several different avenues as becoming a personal trainer does not yet have a formal a process of licensure as say an athletic trainer or therapist.

Most students I have advised, since this is an area I have taught, would be an exercise science major and take courses in anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, motor learning, etc etc. It is rather an intense program and clearly involves a lot of science.

You would then be encouraged to do an internship before graduation. You could then take one of several tests, depending on what organization you want to be licensed with. The most prestigious is the American College of Sports Medicine. You could also go onto to graduate school.

I hope that helps some. I would start looking for colleges with sport or exercise science degrees and talk with a professional in that area.

Good luck

there are several ways, i was interested myself in being one, so i asked one of the trainers at the gold’s gym i worked at…

let’s see what i remember…there are several programs that you can do, i remember that he told me you can sign up for any of them. what i remember was …NSCI, ISSA, and ACE certification programs…the nsci (national strength and conditioning institute) and ISSA (which still sends me emails saying where they’re having seminars) were the “middle of the pack” certifications…ACE certification was the “bottom of the pack, easiest to get” one…and whatever place (schooling through college and what not) gets you to the letters CSCS…that’s the “gold standard” of the industry…hardest to obtain, but you can find a job anywhere and you’re certified to know the “what works, as well as why” workouts work and whatnot…whereas the others might just tell you the “what works”…..but without going to 4 years of college for this sort of thing, you can sign up for one of those programs, just type them into google or whatnot, and they should come up…you sign up to get course materials sent to you, you study, prepare for the test which you have to go and take, and if you pass, you’re a strength and conditioning coach…just like that…you don’t have to get one, then get another to “look better” to clients, once you have those letters, you’re set…

i decided that it wasn’t for me (being a dentist was) but good luck to you and if this rambling was confusing, just email me i’d be glad to help out however i can

Skyler, to be a private coach, you choose a level in workout physique shape. it somewhat is a bachelor’s degree application, and this is provided at ninety p.c. of colleges. How previous you would be will count, of course, on how long it takes which you will end your classes, like anatomy!
